Indigo International and The Flicks present the movie ‘A Dangerous Method’ (Saturday August 19th, 4pm)

Phnom Penh’s child development/mental health clinic Indigo International and The Flicks Community Movie Theaters have joined forces to show interesting movies related to child development and mental health on a regular basis. We have the aim to raise awareness and to inform the audience on these topics. Each movie will be introduced by one of Indigo International’s professionals, and after the screening questions can be asked.

In August we are screening the fim ‘A Dangerous Method’ (2011, 99 min), starring Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Viggo Mortensen. It’s the story of how the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud gives birth to psychoanalysis. Suffering from hysteria, Sabina Spielrein is hospitalized under the care of Dr. Carl Jung who has begun using Dr. Sigmund Freud’s talking cure with some of his patients. Spielrein’s psychological problems are deeply rooted in her childhood and violent father. Jung and Freud develop an almost father-son relationship with Freud seeing the young Jung as his likely successor as the standard-bearer of his beliefs. A deep rift develops between them when Jung diverges from Freud’s belief that while psychoanalysis can reveal the cause of psychological problems it cannot cure the patient.

Erik Van Kemenade, working as psychologist at Indigo International, will give a short introduction on the development of psychology and treatment. After the screening there is a possibility to ask him questions.

The ticket price is $3.50, which gives you access to later screenings that day as well! Don’t forget to make your reservation from Saturday August 12th onwards to avoid disappointment.
